Bolts

 

 Grade 2 Hex Cap Screws 

  • Grade 2 Cap Screws are manufactured from Low or Medium Carbon Steel.
  • Grade markings are not required, and may not appear on Grade 2 Bolts.  
 

Grade 5 Hex Cap Screws 

  • Grade 5 Cap Screws are manufactured from Medium Carbon Steel, Heat Treated, Quenched and Tempered.
  • Three grade markings appear on the head of Grade 5 Cap Screws for identification.

 

Grade 8 Hex Cap Screws 

  • Grade 8 Cap Screws are manufactured from Medium Caron Alloy Steel, Heat, Treated, Quenched and Tempered.
  • Six Grade marking appear on the head of Grade 8 Cap Screws for identification.
 

  Structural A325 

  • A325 Structural Bolts are manufactured from Medium Carbon Steel, Heat Treated, Quenched, and Tempered.
  • Proof load and tensile strength are the same as grade 5 Cap Screws.The major difference is A325 has a Heavey Hex Head and slightly different thread lengths.
  • A325 is usually sold as a unit with a heavey hex nut and is primarily used in steel construction.
 

Grade F-911 (9)

  • The grade 9 Bolting system develops the highest clamp force avilable in a standar bolt/nut assembly.
  • It is frequently referred to by one of the folowing trade names: L9, PFC9, or F911.
  • Special Alloy steels and heat treatments are used to achieve teh 180,000 psi tensile strength.
  • The Grade 9 Bolt is designed to be used in conjunction with a Grade 9 nut and two Grade 9 washers.  Using the bolts in another configuration my cause joint failure.  

 Stainless Steel 18-8 (304)

  • Most often referred to by their collective nickname, "18-8," the low 30 series stainless steels are used in applications where corrosion resistance is of primary concern.
  • "18-8" stainless steels have an equivalent tensile strength to Grade 2 Cap Screws. They are frequently used in food processing and marine applications.
 

Stainless Steel 316

  • Type 316 Stainless Steel Fasteners have the same relative strength as 18-8 Stainless Steel Fasteners, but, due to their different chemical composition, have a much higher tolerance to corrosive environment.
  • Type 316 Stainless Fasteners are used in applications where acids, H2S, or other harsh chemical conditions prevail, such as refineries, cooling towers, and mineral processing.
